Staffing Agency Myths: Fact or Fiction?
When it comes to the job-seeking world, staffing agency myths are plentiful. If you don’t know the truth about the industry, you might be missing out on a service that could be life-changing. Today we put on our myth-busting caps and stop these rumors once and for all!
1. It costs money to work with a staffing agency.
Staffing agencies never charge candidates who are applying for a job. Here at PeopleFirst Staffing, we provide our services for free. We pay for everything from drug screening to background checks. We don’t charge job candidates or employees anything, even after they get hired. It’s actually the employer who pays us for our services.
When pay day rolls around, we pay temps at the pay rate that the client has determined for the position. We adjust pay accordingly as the company requests, which means there is an opportunity to advance, even in a temp position.
Our employee incentive program is also free once you start a job through PeopleFirst Staffing.
2. Agencies can only provide temporary work.
Agencies are actually able to find jobs in a number of different kinds of positions. If temporary work is best for you, we can connect with employers seeking to fill those roles. We can also provide temp to hire, part-time and direct hire jobs, as well as recruitment outsourcing. Ninety percent of PeopleFirst Staffing’s jobs are temp to hire. These positions allow temporary employees to convert to full-time employees once they’ve met the company’s requirements.
3. It takes a long time to find a job through a staffing agency.
Staffing agencies seek to pair worthy job candidates with companies eager to hire. We can get people connected to jobs that start the very next day. We want to pair as many people as possible with employers who need help. Some start the next day or interview the next day, depending on the job. The turnaround also depends on the candidate’s timeline.
An issue that many applicants run into is not knowing the right person to contact at a company to apply. Since we already have a relationship with hiring managers at top Fairfield, Cincinnati and Dayton companies, the process is even faster. All we have to do is send them your resume!
4. Agencies only staff for entry-level, low-paying warehouse jobs.
Many agencies staff for a variety of positions that require advanced skills (in addition to entry-level skills). PeopleFirst Staffing offers a wide variety of jobs. Some positions may require a degree or certification, or require a certain number of years of previous job experience. Such roles include technicians, quality assurance, operations and management positions. They may have annual pay of $50,000 to $60,000. We also staff for office positions, including clerical, call center, customer service reps, administrative assistant and data entry jobs.
5. Agencies don’t care if you are happy at your job.
People often think that staffing agencies are just trying to stick people into jobs and forget about them after they apply.
Agencies want their employees to be successful and happy at their jobs. The entire team at PeopleFirst Staffing is overjoyed when a job-seeker gets to fill an awesome position. We even have a coach for our employees to give them help in all areas of their lives. Our dedicated staff genuinely cares about our job candidates. We want to place each of them in the right position. Our staffing specialists take the time to get to know applicants to help them succeed. If one job doesn’t work out, we help applicants find another role that’s a better fit. We also offer assistance in other areas to see people succeed in life.
6. Agencies don’t offer decent benefits.
PeopleFirst Staffing offers comprehensive health care plans for coverage until you convert to an employee at the company you work at. There are three choices for our medical plans. You have the opportunity to elect benefits that support your health and financial wellness. Immediate family members can be added at an additional charge.
Further details are available in the PeopleFirst Staffing Benefits Guide. In general, benefits available include:
- Medical
- Dental
- Vision
- Limited benefit health plans
- Life and AD&D insurance
- Short-term disability
- Critical illness
7. Working for an agency complicates taxes.
Standard government taxes come out of your paycheck from PeopleFirst Staffing just as they do when you are working for any other company. PeopleFirst Staffing sends standard W-2 or 1099 forms at the start of the year.
8. All staffing agencies are the same.
Although the industry faces many staffing agency myths, all agencies have one end goal in mind: to pair employees with employers. They are not all built the same way, however. PeopleFirst Staffing provides a personalized experience with a small, but mighty, dedicated team. Apply online today and change your life.
