The Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires staffing agencies with over 50 full-time employees to provide healthcare benefits. These policies are offered to all temp employees and become effective on the first of any month following 30 days of full time employment and can be kept in place until permanently hired by a company. After you are hired in a permanent position with a company, then the benefits from that company will be available, including 401ks and more.

Eligibility and Enrolling
During the first month with PeopleFirst Staffing, temps can enroll or waive coverage. Our insurance plans are flexible, so you can accept or decline any of the policies. For example, if you and your family only need dental insurance, you don’t need to pay for vision insurance. You have the opportunity to elect benefits that best support your health and financial wellness. Enrolling is done through a simple online portal or phone call.
You may enroll your eligible immediate family members at an additional charge. For all coverages, eligible dependents include your legal spouse and your children up to age 26.
What Coverage Is Available with Staffing Agency Insurance Benefits?
Medical Coverage
PeopleFirst Staffing employees have access to three different medical plan options. All plans cover 100% of preventative and well child care. Teledoc services with no copay are also included with all plans. The Base MEC High plan is the default medical coverage that costs as little at $79/mo for a single. The Advantage plan adds other important benefits like ER coverage and $0 copay generic prescriptions. The Value plan is true major-medical insurance with coverage for imaging, inpatient hospital services, surgery, and physical therapy.
You can also supplement your medical coverage with limited benefit health plans. These plans pay you a fixed amount in cash to help offset your medical bills and living expenses.
Dental Coverage
Voluntary dental coverage uses the DenteMax network of providers. There are three levels of plan features:
- Type 1: Diagnostic and preventive services
- Type 2: Basic and restorative services
- Type 3: Major services
Vision Coverage
Voluntary vision coverage uses the EyeMed vision network of providers. Plan features range from eye exams to contact lenses and glasses frames.
Life Insurance
Basic life insurance through Companion Life protects your family financially in the event of death or serious accident. When you enroll in a medical plan, you’ll receive $10,000 of employee only basic life coverage at no extra cost. You can choose to add on additional coverage at group rates to the basic life insurance policy. Voluntary group term life insurance is equal to $20,000 for employees and $5,000 for spouses. AD&D (accidental death and dismemberment) insurance is equal to the life insurance amount.
Short-Term Disability Benefits
Voluntary short-term disability (STD) coverage from Companion Life protects you and your family financially in the event of a short-term injury or illness. Benefits begin after seven days of an illness or injury. STD pays up to 60 percent of pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $150 per week for 26 weeks.
Critical Illness
Companion Life critical illness insurance protects employees from the expense of a serious health issue such as a stroke, heart attack or cancer. The plan pays a lump-sum benefit directly to the member at the first diagnosis of a covered issue; the benefit is $10,000 for employees and $5,000 for dependents. Benefit coverage depends on the number of events.
Further Details
The full premium for all benefits is deducted from your weekly paycheck, and deductions are taken for all coverages. PeopleFirst Staffing employees enjoy access to the aforementioned insurance options until they transition to full-time employment with an outside employer.
