School’s Out! Opportunities for New Graduates
You’ve finally made it to the end of the academic road, and now it’s time to start a new journey. But sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming knowing where exactly to start. As a local staffing agency, we know there are lots of opportunities for new graduates, it’s just all about knowing where to look for them. We’ve created a list of paths and jobs that would suit a recent grad.
Internships
It’s true: Internships are not just for current college students. There are lots of paid internship opportunities for new graduates looking to dip their toes into a certain field that they are not quite sure they want to dive into. A post graduation internship can be your best friend in helping you become more familiar with the workforce and workplace. You will learn valued skills and the experience will make you more marketable to potential employers.
Medical Assistants
Medical and veterinary assistants are great jobs for recent graduates with a degree but not a lot of real-world experience. High school graduates can start work as a medical assistant with no further degree. It’s a position that’s perfect for someone who is organized and likes working with people. If working with animals is something you enjoy, a veterinary assistant job is another position open to high school graduates or people who have earned a GED. There are also programs that allow you to become an approved veterinary assistant in Ohio. Caring for people or pets as an assistant is a great opportunity for new grads to experience the field they are interested in and to beef up their resume.
Freelance Opportunities
There are more and more remote freelance opportunities blooming in every industry, particularly copywriting and editing. Companies are looking for short-term contract hires they can outsource a certain project to, but don’t necessarily have the need or the means to bring them on full time. Again, this kind of work can make a great resume-builder.
Real Estate
Getting a real estate license is a great way to gain marketing and sales experience. In most states it only takes a few months to earn a real estate license. New graduates will benefit from developing their interpersonal communication, problem solving, negotiation skills and more. If you love watching “House Hunter” on HGTV, this might be a field for you to explore!
Entry Level Jobs
When looking on job sites, you’ll want to note whether the job description labels the job as “entry level.” This signifies that the employer is looking for someone who is new to the industry and is interested in career advancement. An entry-level hire should expect to receive training and development in not only their new job but in the entire industry. Ready to jump in the job pool? With so many companies looking to hire new staff, now is a great time to find work. Check out our list of open positions.
